Reds MLB talk / Re: Dunn optioned

Agreed on Lively.

I don't think they'll push Williamson this season, if only to play the service time game. I expect he'll be brought to the majors next year after April is over.

Whomever they receive in return for Mahle, Castillo, and company will determine much of that, of course.

Sebastian Almonte is a depth move, at best.

He's been lousy in Rookie Ball and in Daytona.

Ariel Almonte, otoh, has been able to OPS well over 800 in both the DSL and the ACL and is still 18. (And still in Arizona.)

Too bad on Hoffman.

I think he'd have been a solid under-the-radar trade chip for teams needing cheap bullpen help.

I'm guessing he's the replacement for Mahle, Castillo, or Minor when they get dealt.

Ben Brutti signed. That's a massive win. He becomes one of the two or three more interesting young pitchers in the system pretty much immediately.

Rey was among my under-the-radar prospects who might prove interesting at the beginning of the season. Then he got busted for illegal materials.

Patience is the key for him as a prospect. If he can keep his BB rate up around 7%, he's got a shot as a second division starter in CF.

With Stewart signing $250K under slot and Tanner $343K under the Reds have amassed a $952K "slush fund" to over pay Collier.

Should be a couple hundred grand over a million when they release the the numbers for their 9th and 10th round picks.

They can also go over by a pretty big penny-- up to five percent before being docked a draft pick.

That should get them to $5M.
